In 2009, Mayor Nutter launched Greenworks Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia's comprehensive and ambitious sustainability plan. Since then significant progress has been made in implementing many of the initiatives set forth in the plan, with leadership and activity coming from both within and beyond city government. As a result, Philadelphia has been put on the map as a leader in urban sustainability. Katherine Gajewski, Director of Sustainability, will talk about why sustainability is important to cities – and why cities are important to the sustainability movement – with particular focus on the progress made to-date in Philadelphia. Ms. Gajewski will highlight programs and projects of particular note and take questions from the audience.
